Field Strength Dependence in MRI: Advantages and Artifacts at 3T

چکیده

Although B0 = 1.5T remains the predominant field strength for clinical MRI, 3.0T magnets are making substantial inroads into routine practice. The move to 3.0T is driven mainly by its approximate doubling of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) compared to 1.5T. The improved SNR can be used to shorten the acquisition time, to improve spatial resolution at a fixed scan time, or a combination of the two. The scaling of other physical parameters such as the doubling of the susceptibility variation (as measured in hertz) can aid applications like fMRI that use the BOLD effect. Similarly the doubling of the chemical shift (again, measured in hertz) from 1.5 to 3.0T can aid peak separation for spectroscopy.

Improving cardiac cine MRI on 3T using 2D k-t accelerated auto-calibrating parallel imaging

Background Recently, 3D cine has gained attention due to its capability for single breath-hold volumetric measurement [1]. Nonetheless, conventional 2D cine maintains two intrinsic advantages, namely, its superior blood-myocardium contrast owing to blood in-flow effects and reduced SSFP banding artifacts with more localized slice-by-slice shimming. These advantages are more prominent at high fi...

Improvement in B1+-homogeneity of 3T cardiac MRI in swine with dual-source parallel RF excitation

Background Conventional MRI scanners up to a magnetic field strength of 3T use an integrated birdcage quadrature coil to generate a radio frequency (RF) excitation field (B1+). At 3T, Sung et al. observed a flip angle variation ranging from 31 to 66% over the entire left ventricle (LV) in humans as well as a flip-angle distribution from 34° to 63, for a nominal flip angle of 60°. This not only ...

Update on liver MRI at 3T

3T MRI of the liver has become widely available and is routinely utilized in the clinical setting, but published scientific data comparing 1.5T with 3T is limited. Theoretically, higher field strength is desirable in body imaging owing to an increase in signal-to-noise ratio, greater spectral separation, the potential for faster scan times and improved tissue contrast on dynamic contrast-enhanc...

Whole heart coronary MRA at 3.0T: a comparison between multi and single- RF transmission

Introduction On high field MRI scanners uniform radio frequency (RF) excitation over the entire field-of-view is often challenging with single-channel RF transmit coils. This may cause a reduction of image quality (e.g. shadowing artifacts). This problem is most pronounced in sequences which heavily rely on a homogenous magnetic field, such as steady state free precession (SSFP) sequences, desp...

3T intravascular MRI, IVUS and OCT: A study in contrast.

Audience: Interventional radiologists and clinicians interested in intravascular imaging. Purpose: To compare, head-to-head, the performance of three intravascular (IV) imaging modalities—Ultrasound (IVUS), optical coherence tomography (OCT) and 3T MRI—for studying atherosclerotic and stented vessels. Atherosclerosis is marked by lesions which, with high extracellular lipid and thin fibrous cap...
